ADMThe ADM wrestling team finished third out of eight teams in its Raccoon River Conference tournament this past weekend, and had two individual champions in Zach Johnston (152 pounds) and Darold Baker (182 pounds).

Head coach Justin Schmauss has said in the past that his team is a “tournament team” as opposed to a dual meet team, and Saturday’s results in Boone certainly indicated as much.

“We won one dual in our conference (season)–I think we were 1-7 or 1-6 and that’s just because we have a few holes in our lineup, but the guys that we do have, they’re quality guys.  They proved that by wrestling hard this weekend, and I’m pretty happy with where our team is at right now as far as conditioning and technique… everything is looking really good right now.”

With playoff sectionals upcoming this weekend on the road at North Polk, Coach Schmauss gives an indication of what his expectations will be.

“I expect our guys to just wrestle their buts off, and like I said, I think we’re peaking at the right time.  So as long as guys show up, we don’t have any little injuries or sickness creep up on us this week I think we’re going to have a really good showing.”

Matches for this Saturday’s sectional meet begin at noon in North Polk.  We’ll continue to preview the sectional tournament throughout this week on K107.
