The Gilbert Tigers will visit the middle school gym in Jefferson tonight for a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference doubleheader with the Greene County Rams. Gilbert won the first meetings just over a month ago in Story County by a 40-34 girls’ final and a score of 86-71 in the boys’ game.

The Greene County girls led by 11 points early in the third quarter and still held a three point lead with two minutes to play at Gilbert, but then didn’t score the rest of the way and the Tigers ended the game on a 9-0 run. The Rams enter the girls’ game at 9-8 overall while Gilbert is 13-7.

The Gilbert boys put up 22 points in the first six minutes of the game when the teams met last month and they never trailed. The Tigers are 8-9 overall and the Rams are 5-11. Two of the top freshmen in the league will be on the court tonight when Trey Tucker for the Rams and Jack Hoiberg for the Tigers take the floor. Tucker is one of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference’s leading scorers at 18.9 points per game, while Hoiberg has averaged nine points since being called up to the varsity six games ago. And, yes! He is the son of Iowa State University head men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg.

Coverage on KG98 begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls’ game starting at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow.
