Greene County finished in the middle of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meet wrestling standings with five wins and four losses. PCM (Monroe)  and Saydel (Des Moines) tied for first place at 8-1 with Gilbert next with two conference losses. North Polk (Alleman) was 6-3 while Roland-Story (Story City) and the Rams were both 5-4. Nevada went 4-5 with South Hamilton (Jewell) 3-6, CMB (Baxter) was 1-8 and Colfax-Mingo did not win a conference dual meet.

The Rams are finished with regular season wrestling and will take part in the Class 2A Sectional tournament in Perry at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. The first and second place teams Saturday advance to the Feb. 11 dual meet regional at a site to be announced. The top two individuals at the sectional move on the Feb. 15 district hosted at Atlantic High School. The top two individuals at the district tournament advance to the Feb. 20-22 State tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams will be one of the team favorites on Saturday despite having either four or five open weight classes. Not many of the six teams at the sectional will fill all 14 weight classes, and Greene County has six wrestlers that have won at least 80% of their matches this season, plus some other capable individuals.

Greene County and Perry will be joined at the sectional by East Sac County (Lake View), Harlan, Kuemper Catholic, and West Central Central (Stuart).
