droughtThe Raccoon River Valley area got a significant amount of precipitation this week with our first large snowfall of the season but it isn’t enough to change the overall drought conditions just yet.

According to the National Weather Service, Perry received 5.8 inches of snow this week.  That’s equal to 0.41 inch of precipitation, or more than twice as much as the total amount received during the entire month of January.  Typically, Perry sees 5.1 inches of snow in February and 0.8 inches of total precipitation.

Guthrie Center received five inches of snow this week, just 0.4 inches shy of the normal total snowfall amount in February.  They too have had more than twice as much precipitation in the first few days of the month than what was recorded throughout January with 0.22 inch.

Jefferson had 3.4 inches of snow this week, leaving them with four inches left in order to meet the normal snowfall totals for February.  Though their snow was heavier than what fell in Perry and Guthrie Center, amounting to 0.44 inch of precipitation.

Drought conditions remain the same throughout the area, ranging from abnormally dry to severe drought.
