The Guthrie Center Police Department and the Guthrie County Sheriff’s office worked together to help apprehend a wanted suspect with the aid of the sheriff’s K-9 Unit.
Rod Pavelka with the Guthrie Center Police Department says around 8pm on Friday night, they responded to a location where a wanted subject was at in the City. However, he states that the suspect escaped out the back window of the residence and fled on foot prior to their arrival.
Pavelka notes that 45 minutes later, that authorities tracked the individual into a timber area northwest and north central part of Guthrie Center. After assistance was needed from the Iowa State Patrol and the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division helped to mark off a perimeter, the sheriff’s K-9 Unit was brought in to conduct a search.
Pavelka points out that within minutes, the K-9 Rage found the wanted suspect and authorities arrested David Michael Hunt, Jr. for domestic abuse, serious assault. He adds that Hunt was taken to the Guthrie County Jail where he remains held without bond until he appears before the Magistrate.
Pavelka says having a K-9 Unit helps to protect deputies and officers in the line of duty and he believes Rage has been an asset to the community.
