sTEP waveGreene County law enforcement will be participating in this weekend’s Special Traffic Enforcement Program with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau to help deter illegal driving activity.

Both the sheriff’s office and the Jefferson Police Department will be on the outlook for intoxicated motorists, speeders and those who don’t wear their seatbelts during March 14th through the 17th for the sTEP program.

Captain Mark Clouse with the police department says last year they issued 75 warnings and four citations during March’s sTEP program which were added in the over 17,000 violations issued by all the state agencies.  During the most recent program this past Thanksgiving, they wrote 15 citations and 79 warnings.

Police Chief Dave Morlan reminds everyone that they incorporate everything about the sTEP program into their everyday routines when they are on patrol and he urges everyone to obey traffic laws at all times to keep everyone safe on the road.
