A 22 year-old Perry man has been arrested for several sexual abuse related charges.
According to Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn, Geoffrey Phillip Roberts of Perry was taken into custody Wednesday.
“On Saturday afternoon, the 8th (of March) we had a female victim come in to make a report of sexual abuse against Mr. Roberts. Our investigator, Jerome Hill, initiated the investigation on Sunday. On Wednesday we executed a search warrant at Mr. Roberts’ residence to obtain further documentation and evidence to the crime that was committed” says Vaughn.
Roberts is accused of soliciting a 14 year-old girl to have sexual intercourse with him on several occasions between June 3, 2013 and March 8, 2014.
The criminal complaint states that Roberts paid the victim money for sex. He also provided her with alcohol and allowed the minor to tell her parents she was at his house when she was out with friends in exchange for intercourse.
Roberts also allegedly asked the minor to send him explicit photos of herself, stating that in exchange for the pictures he would take time off of their agreement to have sex for a set amount of time. The report shows Roberts also knowingly showed pornographic video to the minor on his cell phone.
Chief Vaughn says the victim and the suspect did know each other prior to the crimes being committed and the incidents occurred both at Robert’s home and on a gravel road just outside the Perry city limits.
Roberts is charged with three counts of 3rd degree sexual abuse, 2 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of dissemination and exhibition of obscene material to a minor. The charges range from serious misdemeanors to class C felonies.
Roberts was transported to the Dallas County jail where he remains held. No bond has been set.
