Greene County RamsA special election will be held on Tuesday, April 1st about a Revenue Purpose Statement for sales tax revenue for education for the Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene school districts.

Due to the reorganization vote that passed in February of 2013, superintendent Tim Christensen says voters in both districts have to vote on the measure as a requirement by the state.

“The exact same Revenue Purpose Statement that we currently have in both districts is the same statement that we will be presenting to the people and we need approval in order to again basically continue to spend the Local Option Sales (and Services) Tax money the same way that we have been but kind of a formality so just encourage people to go out and vote and support that.”

The Greene County School Board of Directors passed a resolution to set the special election last month.

The Secure an Advanced Vision for Education funds can be used for property tax relief, to build or repair new or current school buildings, to purchase or lease buildings or equipment, for emergency repairs, to establish or maintain playgrounds or recreational areas and to help pay for interests on bonds.

Absentee ballots are available now for any eligible Jefferson-Scranton or East Greene school district resident to apply to receive one in the mail or you can get one by going to the County Auditor’s office during normal business hours.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is by Friday, March 28th and people can vote early at the auditor’s office until 11am on election day.
