imagesThe ADM girls track team now has two meets in the books for this young 2014 season, and despite the fact a couple of the Tigers’ “star” athletes were missing from the lineup during Monday’s competition at Iowa State, Coach Bart Mueller was again pleased with his team’s performance.

Of the nearly 75 teams competing at the ISU High School Girls Classic, Mueller says his team finished in the upper third of most events.  Most notably, Coach Mueller was impressed with how his sprint relay teams placed.

“Our sprint medley was I think the earliest event and they finished 10th out of 65 teams that were entered… I guess with the girls that we had I thought that was really impressive.  Up front we had our sprinters Maggi Bjustrum and Madi Bertman–they’re really strong and may be two of the main members of that team.  But our 200 and 400–Brianna (Mueller) ran the 200 and that’s probably not her strength… Regan Engleman on the 400 is still solid, but we had Torrie Hook and Kari Dufoe gone who would normally be in those spots.  (Brianna and Regan) both really stepped up.”

Coach Mueller was also very complimentary of the performance put forth by one of his young freshman, Olivia Anderson.  Anderson filled in for some absent sprinters on ADM’s 100 and 400 meter relay teams Monday, and Mueller believes her development throughout this season could really benefit his team.

“We’ve talked and I’ve told Olivia that we need to her to move up and be a backup 400 runner and that can be tough.  Jumping from the 200 to 400, that last 100 of the 400 is still a sprint but it also stamina and guts.  She got exposed to that (Monday), but I thought she still ran solid.  She ran just under 70 (seconds) for her 400 and I think she’ll easily be down around 64 or 65 (seconds) at the end of the season or better and that’ll really help us out.  That will be a big plus on our team having a fifth strong quarter-miler.”

Anderson will continue to be a fill-in sprint relay runner for ADM over the course of the season, with Coach Mueller complimenting her versatility as a runner capable of competing in the 100, 200, 400 and even the high jump.
