Monsanto Check PresentationThe Greene County High School FFA Chapter recently received a $2,500 donation by the Monsanto’s “America’s Farmers Grow Communities” grant program.

It highlights local farmers and their contributions they make to rural America.  Grand Junction residents Chan and Susan Burkett were the ones who nominated the FFA organization.

She talks about why she chose FFA to receive the donation from Monsanto.

“Both of our kids are in FFA this year and they are getting out of it.  We have a new FFA advisor who’s a go-getter and really doing a lot for our program.  And I saw an opportunity that I could help and I wanted to do that for them.”

Advisor Cortney Schmidt talks about what they will be using the funds for.

“We have a lot of projects that we would like to improve upon.  We have a greenhouse that needs some work and needs some updates, an aquaculture lab that we need to be able to buy seed stock for our fish, so we can have aquaculture programs later on.”

She adds that they are really excited and thrilled to have the funds to further their program for the next year.
