imgresWe first reported last month that Guthrie Center resident Jen Policky is working to bring a fun, new event to her town later this year… that being a visit from the Harlem Ambassadors basketball team.

The event will be hosted by the Guthrie Center Chamber of Commerce in order to raise money for the local Lions Club as it looks to renovate and possibly rebuild its Guthrie County Fair booth.

But to get the Harlem Ambassadors to Guthrie Center, it will take some funding, and Policky says she’s started the process of asking for area businesses to get involved.

“We are looking for a couple different sponsor types.  One being companies, or businesses or individuals to sponsor individual players, the coach of our team and then a couple referees.  And then the larger opportunity that we have to take part in the event would be sponsoring an entire quarter of the basketball game.”

Cost for sponsorship of a player, coach or referee in the game is $300.  Sponsoring a whole quarter of the basketball game costs $600.

Policky says she hopes businesses see beyond the dollar amount and recognize they’d be helping to support a cause that not only benefits the Lions Club, but also the entire community as as a whole.

“There are always fundraisers going on because it doesn’t come for no money to rehab our little town.  So, I think it is so much better than instead of just giving a dollar figure and putting it toward one thing, we can leverage that (money) for the businesses and give something back to them so that the community understands, ‘you know what, they’re committed to the cause, they’re committed to really helping us do something different with this town as well’.”

Policky describes the new basketball event as simply a “win-win” situation for everyone in Guthrie Center.  If enough funds are raised, the Harlem Ambassadors will visit town on Saturday, September 27th.
