ADMThe ADM boys track team competed in its final indoor meet of the 2014 season this past weekend, as nearly two dozen athletes went down to Pella for the Central College High School Invitational.

Head coach Mike Whisner reflects on how things went.

“Had a lot of young kids, took about 20-22 athletes down.  A lot of young kids got to perform and we got to see them run.  So they kind of a have a mark they’ve set, at least for a week or so until the next week, and it was a good experience for everybody I think.”

In advance of the Central College meet, Coach Whisner told us it would be important for his guys to develop confidence as they get closer to the outdoor season, and while he’s happy with the results in Pella, did they get that confidence?  He answers…

“Yeah, I do think that we accomplished that.  It really is tough to run indoors especially when it is a 200-meter track.  The strategy is a little different because you run one lap and you’ve got four curves if it is a 200 indoors, whereas outdoors in the 200 you only have two curves.  But I think we’re where we want to be, just need to keep improving on what we’ve done.  Unfortunately it is going to be another cold couple of days and then hopefully we’ll get outside again.”

Whisner says he hopes to begin daily outdoor practices starting tomorrow if the weather permits.

The ADM boys’ first outdoor varsity meet is scheduled for Friday, April 4th.
