ADMThrough three meets in this young 2014 track season, sophomore Brianna Mueller has been one of the many bright spots for head coach Bart Mueller and the ADM girls track team.

She is coming off a second place finish in the 800 meters at the Central College High School Invite over the weekend, and her dad likes where she’s at.

“I think she is at a good spot.  Again, I go off of last year where she got 6th at state.  Last year at this time in the year she was running 2:26/2:27, and in fact, she was hurt last year.  She got hurt in a snowball accident during practice, sprained her ankle and she was out about a week and a half.  So she’s actually if you look at her times, she’s four seconds ahead of where she was a year ago plus she’s healthy.”

Brianna ended the season at 2:19 last year with her sixth place finish at state in the 800.  Coach Mueller says it is doable for Brianna to improve on that time and then some.

“I think right now we’re pretty sure she’s sitting third in the state behind (Madison) Waymire (of Dallas Center-Grimes) and then a girl from (Davenport) Assumption.  She wants to continue to get better, she’ll keep chasing Madison and hopefully get her one of these times.”

DC-G’s Waymire won the Central College Invite with a time of about 2:22, finishing two seconds ahead of Brianna.  They will next go head-to-head in less than a week in ADM’s first outdoor meet of the season at DC-G.
