Several members of the Greene County boys’ track & field squad were what might be described as “loose” during Media Day on March 20 at Linduska Field in Jefferson. When asked about the description, head coach Dean Lansman said, “It is a good group. They like to have fun, but when they get on the track you know they’re going to compete for you. That’s what I’m looking forward to this year. We do have a lot of individuals who are working really hard and have put a lot of time in, and not just since we started track practice, but there’s been a nice corps group going uptown to The Fieldhouse and working out all winter and this spring already. We’re obviously looking for improvement and you can see it in the stuff we’ve done so far.”

There are 41 boys out for track and field, an increase of about 10 percent from last year. Coach Lansman said the numbers allow him to fill all 18 events in a meet. “We’ll run our best kids in events and try to get three to four events out of them every night that we can. But the numbers allow us to put another relay together or another open individual in certain meets. Everybody gets to run, and that’s nice. We were able to add three or four JV meets for those kids to compete without the varsity there, so that’s good. It’s fun having numbers out and we can take a look at certain individuals or relays on a given night, especially in the 400 meters on down because we have a lot of kids in those distances.”

The Rams are scheduled to open the outdoor season on Monday, March 31 in Jefferson at Linduska Field for the Greene County Early Bird Coed Meet.
