Panorama-Panthers-Picture11The Star Spangled Banner… our country’s National Anthem… it is sung prior to most all sporting events, be it before an area high school football game or before for the Super Bowl.  It is part of sports.

One area high school will actually be signing our National Anthem at a professional sporting event soon–that being the Panorama Choir when it sings in front of thousands of fans prior to the Iowa Wild hockey game on Friday, April 11th.

Choir instructor Chris Helm explains how this unique opportunity came about.

“I got an email from a gentleman with the Iowa Wild who sent an email saying he’d heard we have a decent choir program going on up here… he asked if we wanted to sing the National Anthem and of course we said yes.”

Helm says he’ll be taking between 40 and 45 students with him for their upcoming trip to Des Moines, and while they’ll be signing the National Anthem on a bigger stage than they’re used to, Helm doesn’t believe his kids are nervous.

“The kids feel very good about it.  We sing the National Anthem at several home games–basketball, football, track–and so they feel pretty prepared.  We’re just working out the final details.”

More than anything, Helm says he and his students are simply “happy” and “excited” to have the opportunity they’ve been presented.

Panorama students and families interested in attending the Iowa Wild game on April 11th can purchase discounted tickets in the high school’s front office for $12.  Sign ups for the game must be made by this Friday.
