relay for lifeTeam captains and organizers of the Relay for Life of Guthrie County met earlier this week, and Guthrie County Hospital Outreach Director Becky Secoy says finding ways to raise more funds and getting more teams on board continues to be the focus of discussions.

As for what the goals are for this year’s Guthrie County Relay for Life event at the end of June, Secoy says those have been mapped out.

“Last year we raised $60,000 and this year we’re shooting to raise $62,000.  Last year we had 20 teams and this year we want to get 25 teams.  We currently have 12 teams signed up and we know there are others out there, they just haven’t gotten on board and signed up.  So our goal is to get those past teams to sign back up and also to increase the amount of teams.”

To this point in the fundraising, Secoy says $11,547 have been raised, which is slightly less than Relay for Life had raised at this time a year ago.  Secoy says she is confident though that team captains will help the event eclipse its $62,000 fundraising goal.

But to hit that mark, Secoy admits that more teams are needed to sign up for this year’s Relay for Life.  She discusses who it is she’s recruiting to get involved.

“We’ve talked about reaching out to businesses in the community, churches in the community, different groups that we know are heavily involved in other things.  Then we also want to reach out not only to people directly here in our community, but family members from out of state that could help us online and want to Relay for the same purpose their families back here want to Relay for.”

Secoy says Relay’s next major fundraiser will be held on Saturday, April 19th, as they continue to search for more teams to participate and pursue corporate sponsorships.
