lake panoramaAs we reported earlier this week, Lake Panorama resident and Democrat Steve Roe has officially announced he’ll be running against Clel Baudler this fall to claim a legislative seat in Iowa’s House District 20.

Roe has been a Guthrie County resident for more than three decades, so why does he feel now is the right time to make a run for office?  He explains…

“I have served eight years as a soil and water conservation commissioner.  I feel that sustainable agriculture and water quality are very important to our economy and recreation.  If people like the area, it will attract new businesses and new businesses mean more jobs.  The legislature is a place where we can accomplish the interaction between city governments, county, state and federal–a lot of important decisions are made in that body that affect families and businesses.  It seems to be the logical place where I can make a difference.”

With the November elections still many months out, Roe says much of his campaign will be spent meeting with and simply listening to area constituents to find out what their needs and desires might be.  Once he has those conversations, Roe says he hopes to prepare a campaign theme that is centered around moving House District 20 into the future.

“Everything is changing.  I mean look at everything that is going on, from broadband bandwidth issues that we have… there wasn’t even broadband 20 years ago.  We have to be prepared to move into the future, and that is a big part of what I’m going to be addressing.”
