Iowa high school track and field programs learned on Wednesday from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Assocation where they will be assigned for State Qualifying Meets. All meets in all four classes are coed and are scheduled for Thursday, May 15. Individuals and relays in track and field events will use this method of qualifying for the 2014 Coed State Meet May 22-24 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. There are 12 qualifying meets in Class 1A, eight in 2A and 3A, and six in Class 4A. In 1A, the event champion automatically qualifies for state with the field of 24 filled out with the best 12 non-winning performances. In 2A and 3A, the first and second place finishers are automatic qualifiers with the field of 24 filled by the next eight best performers. In 4A, it’s automatic qualification for the first, second, and third, with the next six best performances filling the field of 24.

ADM and Perry have been assigned to the 3A meet in Dallas Center, along with host Dallas Center-Grimes, Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Chariton, Knoxville, and Saydel (Des Moines). Greene County goes to Atlantic and will be joined by the host school, plus Carroll, Creston, Denison-Schleswig, Glenwood, Harlan, and Winterset.

Panorama (Panora) and West Central Valley (Stuart) go to a 2A meet at Treynor, along with the host school and Clarinda, IKM-Manning, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), MVAO (Maple Valley), Missouri Valley, Red Oak, Shenandoah, Southwest Valley (Corning), and St. Albert (Council Bluffs). Van Meter is also a 2A host site.

Paton-Churdan has been assigned to a 1A meet in Laurens, while Earlham is also hosting a 1A meet, which includes the host school, Adair-Casey, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Guthrie Center, and Woodward-Granger, among others.
