ADMADM’s boys and girls soccer teams each ended their weeks on good notes, as both squads picked up wins on Thursday night.

In a home match against Norwalk, the ADM/Van Meter girls blanked the Warriors 5-0 to keep their unblemished record so far this season.  The Tigers are now 3-0 on the year.

Head coach Kelsey Dolder says her team’s shutout performance followed a lengthy conversation they’d had in practice the night prior.

“We talked about about winning the balls out of the air and winning those 50-50 balls and the girls did a fantastic job of that.  And we also talked about how we really just have to play simple–the girls did a fantastic job of that as well.”

The goalscorers for the Tigers in their win over Norwalk were senior Shania Bartels, senior Emily Hofman, senior Madi Bertman and senior Carol Maher, who found the back of the net twice.

Coach Dolder’s bunch will now be off until this coming Thursday, when they take on Raccoon River Conference foe Bondurant-Farrar.

As for the ADM boys, they narrowly eeked out a 3-2 win over Knoxville on the road Thursday night, which marked their fourth consecutive victory.

According to the scoring summary from head coach Bill Shields, the Tigers had to come from behind twice before pulling out the close win.

Knoxville opened up the scoring in the 10th minute, but ADM was able to equalize just before halftime when Derek Gushiken was fouled inside the box. Gushiken’s ensuing penalty kick tied the game at 1-1.

After intermission, Knoxville again scored first, but the Tigers superior possession finally gave them an edge late in the contest.  First, Johnny Reel wiggled past three defender before pushing a pass ahead to the cutting Jake Hutzell, who squeezed it past the goalkeeper for his sixth goal of the season. And then with three minutes left on the clock, Derek Gushiken was again fouled inside the box, and again, the junior calmly drove the ball into the back of the net for the game winner.

The ADM boys have today and tomorrow off before getting back on the pitch Monday.  The Tigers travel to Des Moines to take on a Des Moines East team that beat them 1-0 earlier this season.
