ADMThe ADM boys track team runs at Ballard tonight for a little tune-up prior to the Drake Relays.

Speaking of Drake, the Tigers have just two athletes competing there this year in hurdler Tate Jensen and shot putter Jesse Bennett.  Both were confirmed as qualifiers over the weekend.

Bennett is currently nursing a sore arm but head coach Mike Whisner says he does expect the senior to be medically cleared to compete starting on Thursday.

As we sit at the midway point in the season, while he would have liked to have seen more ADM athletes qualify for Drake, Coach Whisner says he’s actually happy with how this season is going because he’s seen some younger guys step up.

“I think a highlight is that we have 12 freshmen out and those freshmen are getting to compete because we have JV with a lot our meets this year.  So, we get to see a lot of those kids as well as the sophomores and juniors, but you get to see a lot of kids run and if you have somebody who can’t go, we have a better sense of who can compete at that level.”

Whisner says getting a look at his younger athletes could ultimately pay dividends in future years.

But hey, there is still a lot of action left in this season, and that starts tonight at Ballard.
