ADMAfter an impressive showing at the Drake Relays over the weekend, the ADM girls track team is right back at this week, starting with tonight’s home varsity invitational.

Before we look at tonight’s meet though, let’s reflect one more time on the girls’ performances at Drake.  To do that reflecting is head coach Bart Mueller, who called the relays “a memory for life.”

“They’ll talk about this for years that they got to run with their friends.  I emphasized to the girls, ‘this is your opportunity, it is exciting and have fun… you’ll remember this for a long time’.  So they’ll take that great memory and they’ll takeaway that they can be successful again, just reinforces to all of them that they can have success down at Drake and run well, which is good to know when you go into state meet knowing you’ve already had success on that track.”

With that state track meet now less than a month away, Coach Mueller says he anticipates his girls’ outstanding times being even better by the time they’re back in Des Moines at the end of May.

“I think we’ve got another drop in us in all those relays, especially the 4×200, the 4×400 and the sprint (medley).  I think all those relays, even though they set school records (at Drake), I think they are going to drop (times) again.  If we get some nice days at the state meet, I’m confident that those groups are going to drop time, and they know they can do it (too).”

Taking the steps to drop those times begins tonight, as the girls will take part in their own home relays.  Other teams competing are Perry, Des Moines North, Jefferson-Scranton, Madrid, Nodaway Valley, Van Meter and Boone.

The girls will also be on the track Thursday for an invitational at Carlisle.
