ralph wattsWe’re now a full week past the scheduled end date for this year’s state legislative session.

Earlier this session, District 19 State Representative Ralph Watts told us he thought they would be able to adjourn early.

“When we went into session this winter, we were supposed to be out within 80 days.  Well we’ve passed 100 days and counting, so it’s been kind of a slow and interesting session up until the last week or so” says Watts.

Budget bills are typically some of the last things done before the lawmakers adjourn but Watts says several bills are tied up in the Senate right now.

“We passed the budget bills that we need to pass to fund government and other programs, and we usually do that the last thing of the session and adjourn and go home.  Well now we have only four of the twelve budget bills passed and to the governor.  There are eight others that either haven’t started or they passed the House and are sitting in the Senate.  So we’re kind of in a holding pattern here during the last few days and I’m hoping we break the log jam early this week and end the session.”
