home base iowaPlans have been in the works to organize new Home Base Iowa signs to be placed around Greene County.

Economic Development Director Ken Paxton says by implementing signs as you enter the county further designates them as the first county in Iowa as a Home Base Iowa community to help bring military veterans to the county.

“Anybody that comes into our county, first thing they’re going to see is the Greene County (signs) and then they’re going to see the fact that we’re a Home Base Iowa community.  Once again that’s a wonderful thing to be and it gives us the incentive and the awareness to veterans that this is a welcoming community and we want them to consider us as a place to locate.”

County Engineer Wade Weiss says they will be working with the Iowa Department of Transportation about the dimensions of the signs and the exact placement of each sign and how they propose to pay for them.

He points out that he will do whatever he can to help with the project.

“We’re going to do what we can to get the signs in place as you enter Greene County to let everyone know that we are a Home Base (Iowa) community which also includes the unincorporated areas of the county.  So we’re looking at the entrances to the county on all the state roads being signed to let the people know that we have this initiative in place in Greene County.”
