cyclists of greeneThe Cyclists of Greene will be kicking off the summer season with some new events this weekend.

Ride Director Chuck Offenburger says on Saturdays at 8am will be adult bike rides, Sundays at 5pm will be family-style bike rides and on Wednesdays at 5:30pm will be another adult bike ride.  He points out that all the rides will start at the Jefferson Depot.

Offenburger states that the weekly bike rides are intended to make bicycling a fun, group experience and encourage regular exercising.  Plus, each week may include a different route.

“When we organize these rides like this, each will have a ride captain and that captain will talk with the group and say, ‘where do we feel riding today, how far do you want to go today?’.  Kind of come to a consensus and then that ride captain makes sure everybody makes it along the way or if anybody has trouble, they’re there to help because they’re all experienced cyclists.”

All bike rides are free and open to the public and Offenburger recommends that you wear a helmet to each event.

He notes that there will also be a bicycle safety check for individuals under the age of 18 on Sunday, May 4th from 1-5pm at All Ability Cycles in Jefferson.  Free services offered include bike examinations, adjustments, tire inflation and helmet fitting.  Offenburger adds that if someone needs new parts, then they will have to pay.
