2014 Bell Tower Festival LogoThe first activity to is scheduled to kick-off this year’s Bell Tower Festival in June will be the community barbecue meal.

Co-chair and Jefferson City Council member Harry Ahrenholtz says the Greene County Pork Producers will be grilling the main dish of either a boneless pork chop or a pork burger for this year’s kick-off meal.

He points out that this year, he and co-chair Jim Schleisman have agreed to make a change to the barbecue meal to include more people.

“We’ve noticed that there haven’t been a lot of kids at that event and we’re wondering whether the ticket pricing and that has been such that may be kept them away.  So what we’re offering up this year is a kids meal for $4.  Hopefully this would draw some kids into the event and let more people enjoy what we think is a really great event.”

Usually, the Friday evening meal draws about 500 people to the Greene County Community Center which is where it will be this year again.  Ahrenholtz comments that due to everything that’s happening in the county this year, they have a contingency plan in place in case there are more people than normal.

However, one thing that he is grateful for is having the meal at a facility that isn’t dependent on the weather.

“And no matter how well you plan, the weather can be a factor.  And that’s why I’m so glad that we have it at the (Greene County) community center.  Because that’s kind of a weather-immune event, so people can be in out of the rain, or in out of the sun or in out of the cold if that happens.”

It will be from 5-7pm at the rec center in Jefferson on Friday, June 13th.
