The Boone Classic Invitational coed track and field meet was held on Thursday night in cold and windy conditions in Boone. Light rain fell for the first hour or so, then stopped, making the conditions a bit more bearable. The host Boone teams won both titles.

The Toreadors had 122 points to win the girls’ title with Greene County at 90, Grinnell 80.5, Webster City 61.5, and Denison-Schleswig 38.

Boone had 129 points in winning the boys’ team race. Just five points separated the other four teams with Webster City second at 63, followed by Greene County with 62, D-S 60, and Woodward-Granger. 58.

The Rams won two boys’ events and six girls’ events. Daric Whipple won the boys’ 400 meter low hurdles race and Alex Rasmussen won the shot put for boys. Standout sprinter Roman Phillips did not take part in the meet due to muscle soreness. The Rams had girls’ victories from Eme Johnson in both the 100 and the 400 meter hurdles races, as well as first place finishes from Hannah Onken in the discus throw, and Allison Higgins in the 3,000 meter run. The sprint medleyand distance medley relays placed first with Kate Sandage, Emma Saddoris, Olivia Hansen, and Emily Christensen running both events.
