imgresAn Adair-Casey sophomore and Adair County 4-Her has been selected to be one of just 21 students that will make up the Iowa delegation at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, GA later this year.

Her name, is Shelby Soper.

Soper says she learned of her selection about two weeks ago, and her reaction was one of surprise.

“I couldn’t believe that as a sophomore at Adair-Casey, I could be selected to be a part of this.  I’m just so proud of myself that I’m able to go and do this.”

Soper says she spent countless hours working through an extensive application and interview process that ultimately landed her the National Congress honor.  She explains which components of her application stood out to judges.

“I wrote a poem describing 4-H and its point of view, and how I could also present myself for Iowa 4-H down in Georgia.  But also I think it’s because I have this warm personality and I’m really excited to meet all these different people from all these different backgrounds.”

Soper will be officially honored for her National 4-H Congress selection during a ceremony at the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference next month.

To hear Soper talk more about her recent selection and more about 4-H in general, tune-in to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
