market to market relayThe 2nd Annual Iowa Market-to-Market Relay is this weekend.

Chuck Offenburger with the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association says the 75-mile relay race that starts in Jefferson and ends in downtown Des Moines will include over 2,100 people this year.

He states that the race includes 17 exchange zones along the trail in which each seven-to-eight person teams will hand off their batons making their way to Des Moines from Jefferson on Saturday, May 10th.

Greene County Chamber Director Chris Henning says they still need volunteers to help with the three exchange zones in Greene County.

Offenburger talks about where the three exchange zones are in the County and what the volunteers are expected to do.

“They make sure that traffic flows well that the runners are safe coming in and out of those exchange zones.  And the three (exchange zones) in the county are starting zone here in (downtown) Jefferson, and then Bull Head 1915 Farm that Chris Henning owns and that is just south of  Winkleman’s Switch and then right in Cooper.”

Volunteers will be needed when the first wave goes off at 5:40am and the last wave of runners will take off from the south side of the downtown square in Jefferson at 9:30am.

To volunteer contact the Chamber at 386-2155.
