The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference is scheduled to hold it’s coed track and field meet today at 4 p.m. in Alleman hosted by North Polk. There is a possibility of precipitation today, but Greene County head coaches Dean Lansman and Kelly Simpson told Raccoon Valley Radio that it’s today or not at all, as there is no make-up date for the 20-team event.

The HOIAC has long been a strong track and field conference and Coach Simpson said Gilbert, North Polk, PCM (Monroe), and Roland-Story (Story City) all have strong girls’ teams. Greene County figures to be up there as well, but the coach said he is focusing more on the May 15 State Qualifying Meet in Atlantic than the conference meet since the two are so close together. He added past efforts to hold the conference meet the week before State Qualifying Meets has been met with resistance.

On the boys’ side, NP, CMB (Maxwell), Gilbert, and R-S might be considered favorites with Greene County also being considered for the upper division.

The facility in Alleman is brand new and includes an all-weather track, artificial surface football field, and a new high school building.
