cyclists of greeneThe Cyclists of Greene invites everyone out for the first full moon bike ride of the year this week.

Member Chuck Offenburger says each monthly bike ride will start at the Jefferson Depot and ride down the Raccoon River Valley Trail about eight miles to Cooper in the twilight hours.  Then, the group will take a break in Cooper and let the full moon get overhead and then head back up the trail to Jefferson.

Offenburger notes that this is a fun and relaxing bike ride along the bike trail which can get quite lively with wildlife at night which is why he recommends to take safety precautions before you go on the ride.

“You’ll definitely want to have a bike light and taillight, I recommend.  You’ll definitely need a helmet.  And then, we always make sure that everybody’s riding with somebody else, so we stay in a pretty good group, but not too close to each other.  And then we always come back and we always have free treats at the (Jefferson) Depot afterwards, so it’s a great time.”

The first full moon bike ride of the year will be on Wednesday, May 14th starting from the Jefferson Depot at 7:30pm with the return trip scheduled to be at 8:36pm when the moon rises.
