GC Music BannerOn Friday, the Greene County High School concert band and choir competed at state large group contest in Gilbert.

Band Director Becky Greiner says her concert band received a I-rating which is the top rating a group can get.  She points out that despite the trouble the group had with their second song, “Brighton Beach”, their first selection is what helped them get another I-rating.

“Well, we started off extremely strong.  Our “Variations In A Korean Folk Song” was probably the best we could’ve ever played it.  Our soloists were very fine, the ensemble played very well, our dynamics were fantastic (and) minimal mistakes in our first piece which is probably what got us our I(-rating).”

As for the concert choir ensemble, director David Heupel says they received a II-rating.  He states that they just missed a I-rating by a couple of points but he’s very proud of the work his 90-member group put in this year preparing for the contest.

He comments that due to time restraints throughout the year, he could only enter one mixed group to this year’s contest, but he adds that the group showed overall improvement and performed their two selections the best they’ve ever done.
