jefferson city councilThe Jefferson City Council met last night in regular session.

The Council approved the purchase agreement and will tear-down the property at 506 East Clark Street and paying Region XII Council of Governments $1,500 for a inspection service agreement for the City’s new property at 507 South Locust Street.

The Council also approved paying $171,352.61 to King Construction for worked completed up at April 30th on the water main improvement project around Hy-Vee, Incorporated’s property.  City Engineer John Milligan said that the water mains have been replaced on Vine and Wilson streets and he expects the entire project to be finished by the middle of next week.

The Council approved the first readings to increase resident’s water and sewer rates by three percent.  City Administrator Mike Palmer said that for a single person, the water increase would be an average of $.77 per month and for sewer, it would be a $1.10 increase.  For a family of four, the increase for water service would be an average of $3.10 and for sewer, it would be a little over $3 per month.

City Clerk Diane Kennedy mentioned to the Council that the Greene County Supervisors have requested that they submit their revenue purpose statement for use of their Local Option Sales and Services Tax so it can be placed on the November election ballot.  No action was taken on the item.

City Building Inspector Tom Heater said that the Planning and Zoning Commission met on May 7th and is recommending to the Council to change the ordinance to allow beekeeping within the city limits.  No action was taken on the topic.

Councilman Harry Ahrenholtz mentioned that the Jefferson Public Library has raised $13,500 of the $32,000 estimated cost to replace their handicap-accessible chair lift for the library.

Reagan Osbourne presented to the Council some drawings for a proposed outdoor furniture to be allowed in front of her business at Greene Bean Coffee.  No action was taken on the issue.
