The injury bug and inconsistent weather have dampened the Perry track season this year. The Bluejays will try to put all the pieces together tonight in a 3A State Qualifying Meet at Dallas Center Grimes High School. Perry returned a pair of state long jumpers from a season ago but both Will Whiton and Ben Daniels have been slowed by hamstring injuries. “We are still concerned about tomorrow night, said Perry Coach Cody Eichmeyer, “We are really dinged up. Will tweaked his hamstring over the weekend at the conference meet while Ben is in better condition than Will yet not 100%. I’m hoping they can go for 1 or 2 jumps and get those state qualifying jumps in early and then shut it down.” Perry’s coach expects anywhere from one to 6 events to have a chance at qualifying. Perry will compete against ADM, DCG, Bondurant Farrar, Carlisle, Chariton, Knoxville, and Saydel.
The top 2 in each event qualify for state with the next best 8 times , throws and leaps across the state qualifying as at large bids. It is a coed qualifying meet.
