High school state qualifying track and field meets are today around the state in all four classes. It will be cooler than normal and some parts of Iowa could see rain, so conditions will be less than ideal. Greene County is in a Class 3A meet in Atlantic while Paton-Churdan travels to Laurens for 1A competition.

In 3A, the first and second place finishers are automatic state qualifiers with the field of 24 filled out by taking the best eight performances statewide that did not finish first or second. In 1A, only the first place finisher is an automatic state qualifier with the field of 24 filled by comparing the performances statewide and taking the best 12 performances that did not finish in first place.

Teams joining Atlantic and Greene County are Carroll, Creston, Denison-Schleswig, Glenwood, Harlan, at Winterset. Laurens-Marathon and Paton-Churdan will be joined by Alta/Aurelia, Bishop Garrigan (Algona), Clay Central-Everly, Forest Ridge (Holstein) (girls’ only), Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, Newell-Fonda, North Union (Armstrong), Prairie Valley (Gowrie), Southeast Webster-Grand (Burnside), St. Mary’s (Storm Lake), and West Bend-Mallard.
