farmers marketThe start of this year’s Greene County Farmer’s Market is a little more than two weeks away.

Anyone wishing to sell local produce or sponsor a community meal is invited to one final organizational meeting tomorrow night.

Chamber Director Chris Henning says they will be discussing rules and regulations from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and Department of Inspection and Appeals along with other information.

Another aspect of the farmer’s market will be groups or organizations that sponsor a meal during each market on Tuesday evenings from 4-6:30pm from June 3rd through October 14th.

“Well, it’s a fantastic opportunity for churches and civic organizations to say hi to their customers, or to their congregations or even people who don’t know about them.  And we love it when they use local foods.  So that’s great fun.”

The vendor fees for the 18 markets this year are $160 for all of them if you are wanting to sell out of your vehicle or it’s $120 for the season without a vehicle.  The daily rate is $30 which including selling out of your vehicle or $20 without.  To sponsor a meal it is $20.

New or return vendors may come to the final organizational meeting tomorrow night at 5:30pm in the lower level of the Sierra Community Theatre in Jefferson.
