Senator-ZaunAs he continues his quest to garner the Republican nomination in June’s primary for the open 3rd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, State Senator Brad Zaun visited Stuart yesterday afternoon to meet with town business owners and community members.

We spoke with Zaun during his meet and greet session, and he told us that he believes his mixture of political background and business success make him the right person to receive the Republican nomination.

“Like I’ve mentioned before, everybody in this race are good people, but who is battle tested?  If you have any questions about second amendment, I’ve taken votes on it.  If you have questions about where I am when I’m spending the taxpayers’ money, there is no question I handle it like it’s my own money.  I think that’s what we need to send to Washington D.C.”

If he does ultimately receive the nod over his fellow Republicans early next month and if he beats out Democrat Staci Appel in the November election, Zaun says Iowans will be getting a Congressman that stays true to himself and his constituents.

“I will not and never have made a decision based on reelection.  I believe this is public service.  This was never the intention of our Founding Fathers to make a career out of (politics).  My promise to people is that I’ll do the right thing if I’m there one term or however long so be it… I will always be honest with the people and do what I think is right for the next generation.”

To hear more from Zaun as he discusses why he’s running for the U.S. House of Representatives this year, tune-in to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County on K107 during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
