Perry junior Will Whiton knows what it takes to place at the state tournament.  Afterall, last year, Whiton and teammate Ben Daniels brought Perry success in the long jump at the pinnacle of the high school track season.  This year, Whiton has battled a late season hamstring injury in trying to find his groove that placed him third in the state a year ago.  “Will was able to jump 20 feet 8 inches last Thursday in one leap,” said Perry Coach Cody Eichmeyer.  “It was by far not a perfect jump for Will.  He took off about 8 inches to early but the key was it was good enough.  One jump, and a state qualifying leap.  That was our goal.  Now, it is to get as fully healthy as possible and try to open it up in Des Moines.”

Whiton will be joined by Scott James in the high jump at the state tournament field events.
