Greene County didn’t manage a hit until the sixth inning and Greene County lost to Saydel (Des Moines) 4-1 on Tuesday night in Jefferson in season opening baseball for both teams. The game was broadcast on KG98.

Junior Alex Rasmussen broke up senior Brandon Hodges no-hit bit with a two-out double to right center after Hodges threw 5-2/3 innings of no-hit ball. Rasmussen scored when the Eagles committed two infield errors on the same play. Hodges fanned 11 Rams and 13 Greene County batters struck out in all. Junior Riah Nelsen took the loss even though he pitched well. Nelsen gave up seven hits, six singles, and walked no one while striking out seven in a complete game effort. The right hander retired 10 of the last 11 batters he faced and only an error prevented him from setting down the last 10. Nelsen allowed four runs in the third inning, two of which were earned.

The Rams host Class 2A preseason top five rated Roland-Story in Jefferson tonight at 7:30 p.m.
