Greene County Community CenterThere are several youth summer activities planned for the early start of summer at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.

Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says registrations are now being accepted for two new programs that start next week.

Starting Strength is a new program that helps student-athletes gain strength throughout the summer while developing good muscle strength techniques with kettlebells, and barbell lifts.  There will be two sessions from June 2nd through July 3rd and July 7th through August 7th.  It will be on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30-9:30am from youth in grades 7th-12th.  The cost to participate is $50 for one session or $80 for both.

Lautner states that another new program is designed specifically for female student-athletes.  The Girls Gone Strong program gives girls in grades 7th-12th the techniques needed to prevent ACL and rotator cuff injuries which Lautner adds is more common in females than male athletes.  This program will be on Mondays from noon-1pm from June 2nd through the 30th.  There is a $25 fee to take this program.

Space is limited for both activities.  Call 386-3412 or stop by the rec center to sign up.
