The Greene County High School softball team suffered a pair of blows less than 14 hours apart last weekend. First came a 4-3 defeat on Friday night in Monroe to PCM in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, only to see the Mustangs score three times for the victory.

The first inning of the first of three games on Saturday vs. Class 4A Boone at the Ogden Tournament saw Greene County’s leadoff hitter, second baseman, and three-year starter Emma Saddoris, slide into home plate to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. However, she didn’t get up after easily beating a throw home. An ankle injury kept Saddoris from playing the rest of the day and her status for tonight’s game in Jefferson vs. Colfax-Mingo is uncertain. The Rams lost in eight innings to Boone, 3-2.

Greene County went 1-2 at Ogden., against three teams from the 4A class. They also lost to Webster City 4-2, then ended the day with a 15-3 victory over Carroll High. The win vs. the Tigers ended a three-game losing streak and evened Coach Tom Kennedy’s teams record at three wins and three losses.
