Scranton Library pic 1The Scranton Public Library will soon have a new location.

Library Director Maggie Abernathy says the library received a donation from Frank Marchant who left about $500,000 to build a new library in his will.

She states that the 3,200 square-foot building is located just one building down from its current location on Main Street.  The new facility will have a open look to it complete with portable bookshelves that Abernathy adds can be moved around to open up space for children or adult activities.

She notes that there will be space for an office, two bathrooms and a new circulation desk.  Plus, there will be two sections for adults and teens to use computers and some furniture will be moved from the current library to the new one.

Abernathy points out that construction of the new facility is being done by Badding Construction in Carroll and that construction started last fall and she anticipates having it open by later this summer.

Before they have the grand opening, Abernathy is asking for volunteers to help carry books and materials, bucket-brigade style, from their current location to their new location since it is so close in proximity.

Interested individuals can call the library at 712-652-3453.
