City Of Jefferson To Increase Sewer And Water Rates

Jefferson residents will soon see an increase on their water and sewer bills.

City Administrator Mike Palmer says every year, the City Council reviews the water and sewer rates and makes recommendations based off any increases in usage or expenditures.

The City Council is proposing a 3% increase for both water and sewer.  Palmer points out that last year, the City didn’t raise either service and by doing a small increase now prevents a larger increase in the future.

He explains that these services are not supported by tax dollars but are enterprises that must remain at a break-even status and are supported by user fees.

The Council is expected to approve the third and final reading to increase the rates at next Tuesday’s meeting.
