John ReedA Jefferson man was arrested and faces potential drug charges.

Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert says at 10:23pm on Monday, deputy Kirk Hammer found a vehicle in the ditch on K Avenue between 250th and 260th streets, between Jefferson and Scranton.

During the investigation, Haupert states that 30 year-old John Douglas Reed refused to take a field sobriety test but that the deputy noticed alcohol on his breath and discovered drugs in the vehicle.

Reed is charged and is being accused of possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain control and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Haupert notes that once Reed was brought to the Greene County Jail, the jail staff found more methamphetamine on the subject and so Reed is additionally charged with a Class D Felony for possessing contraband within the jail.

Haupert adds that additional charges may be included pending the results from the drug tests at the Criminalistics Laboratory in Ankeny.

Reed remains in the Greene County Jail.
