national weather service

Raccoon Valley Radio initiated its Severe Weather Action Team coverage early today due to the National Weather Service issuing a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of our listening area.

Around 7:40am, the severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southwestern Greene County, northeastern Guthrie and Audubon counties and southeastern Carroll County until 8:15am.  The National Weather Service recommended that people in those areas seek shelter due to a strong storm that was capable of producing hail was detected on radar.

Heavy rainfall and lightning were reported from passersby off of Highway 141 in Coon Rapids and by  Adair & Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf near Bayard with no hail included in the storm.  The dispatchers with the Greene County Law Enforcement Center didn’t send out any storm spotters and thought the storm had pretty much dissipated by the time it got to the county before the warning was lifted.

No damage was reported in any of the affected areas and it was mostly overcast skies in Greene County.  No official rainfall totals were received at this time.

Raccoon Valley Radio had five staff members involved in our Severe Weather Action Team coverage.

The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will bring you live wall-to-wall coverage any time there is a severe weather warning in Dallas, Greene or Guthrie County.
