The Greene County baseball team was a 7-3 winner over Ridge View (Holstein) Saturday morning in Carroll at Merchant’s Park as part of the two-day Kuemper Catholic tournament. Today’s games are played in a “classic” format with teams playing games vs. pre-arranged opponents. The Sunday games will be played as  a four-team tournament with Greene County meeting St. Albert (Council Bluffs) at 11 a.m. The second game for Greene County on Sunday will be at either 3 or 5 p.m. vs. either Kuemper Catholic or Le Mars.

The Rams improved to 7-12 while the Raptors fell to 13-8. Junior Riah Nelsen improved his pitching record this season to 2-3 by going the first four innings. Sophomore Tyler Beger picked up the save by going the last three frames. Nelsen allowed two hits, struck out four, and walk none. He did hit two batters with pitches and allowed on run, and it was earned. Beger gave up two runs, both earned, on three hits and two walks. He fanned two batters.

Greene County collected 10 hits including the first home run of the season by junior first baseman Alex Rasmussen. He led off the second by sending a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence. It was just the second homer by a Greene County hitter this season. Rasmuusen also had an infield single. Junior Colton Fitzpatrick doubled, single, and drove in a run, while Nelsen singled in a run, then dove in two more on a pair of SAC flies for a three RBI day. Junior Dylan McConnell delivered a run-scoring single, with Zach Fouch, Wes Tipton, and Beger all adding base hits. Pinch-hitter Mac Adamson led off the seventh inning with a single in his first varsity at bat.
