A 7-4 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball victory on KG98 over South Hamilton (Jewell) in Jefferson on Friday night resulted in several positives for the Greene County Rams. The victory was number 20 against six losses and it kept Coach Tom Kennedy’s team tied for the first place in the conference at 13-2. The win was also the seventh on the home diamond for the Rams against no losses. Coach Kennedy’s last five teams have won at least 20 games.

The Rams scored a single run in the first and two in the second. Three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth put the Rams ahead 7-0. SH scored one in the sixth and three in the seventh and all the Hawks’ runs were unearned. Greene County made three errors, all in the final two frames that led all the SH runs.

Both teams reached double figures in hits with 10 by the Hawks and 13 for the Rams. All of the SH hits were singles while the Rams had four doubles to go with 10 singles. Kayla Mobley doubled twice and singled once while Emma Saddoris doubled and singled, and Bailey Godwin had a pair of base hits. Tressa Rasmussen doubled while Marissa Promes, Emily Christensen, Hannah Onken, Sydney Koch, and Carleight Paup added singles. All nine Greene County batters had at least one hit. Godwin drove in two runs while Saddoris, Mobley, Christensen, and Promes each had one RBI.

The Rams are scheduled to play three times in the South Hamilton tournament today beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Stanhope vs. Iowa Falls-Alden.
