The Greene County Rams and Gilbert Tigers play Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball in Jefferson tonight at Allensworth Field. Coverage on KG98 begins at 7:15 p.m. with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m. The Tigers are in third place in the 10-team HOIAC while the Rams are in sixth. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team has won four of its last five games and is 7-12 overall and 6-8 in the league.
Tonight’s game will be the first since Saturday for the Rams and the pitching staff is rested, according to Coach Sawhill. With recent rain outs and the upcoming July 4th weekend, this is the only game this week on Greene County’s schedule, so the Rams’ top two pitchers, Riah Nelsen and Colton Fitzpatrick, are both ready for mound duty.
Next week is a busy one for the Rams with road games at Alleman vs. North Polk on July 7, at Ogden July 8, at Osceola vs. Clarke Community on July 9, and at Lytton vs. South Central Calhoun on July 10. The Rams are also hopeful of getting a make up game for at least one of the two conference games that were recently rained out. South Hamilton (Jewell) was scheduled to play in Jefferson on June 27 and Nevada was scheduled for a game in Jefferson on June 30.
