DOTA notice for anyone traveling on US Highway 30 through Greene County that the Iowa Department of Transportation is doing bridge construction just east of Jefferson.

DOT Construction Technician Supervisor Dennis Ward says a crew with Kramer and Associates are doing a bridge overlay project on the Hardin Creek Bridge about 1.1 miles east of Jefferson.

He states that due to construction, traffic will be limited to one lane with portable traffic lights on either end of the bridge and there are plenty of warning signs to alert motorists as they are approaching the area.

Ward comments that the bridge was showing signs of deterioration with cracks in the surface and so crews will be removing ½-inch of concrete and putting down fresh layer of concrete to improve the lifespan of the bridge.

The project started yesterday and will take approximately three weeks for each lane to be done.  The eastbound lane is first and then the westbound lane will follow.  Ward adds that their timeline is also dependent on weather.
