lake panoramaThis weekend ahead will be the busiest of the year at Lake Panorama.

With heavy boating traffic and large crowds of people expected to be at the lake for the 4th of July holiday, the Lake Panorama Association has issued a final notice to remind residents of the boating rules for this weekend.

Vessel operators can expect a full complement of Lake Patrol officers on the lake this weekend, along with LPA Security on land patrol duty.  The Iowa DNR will also be out on the water looking for such violations as boating while intoxicated.

Swimmers are reminded to keep within 10 feet of one’s boat while on the water or within the roped boundaries at the lake’s three beaches.  Using floating devices more than 50 feet from shore can leave people vulnerable during heavy boating times and will not be allowed.

The LPA says it is likely the Narrows will be closed to towing activities during busy times this weekend.  Dangerous situations can arise when a tuber or skier goes down when there is not enough room for boats to legally pass other vessels at normal speeds.

Finally, during this weekend ahead, the LPA is asking that residents phone in reports and boat descriptions if operators are using unsafe practices such as following too closely, driving on the wrong side of the main channel and have overloaded boats.

To report any violations, residents can reach LPA Security at 641-755-3101.
