An update on September’s Harlem Ambassadors basketball event was given to begin the meeting.  Shannon Neff says the Guthrie Center Lions Club has signed on as an official sponsor but four sponsorships remain available.

Neff also announced that the Chamber’s float in the Guthrie County Fair over Labor Day weekend will be basketball themed to further promote the Harlem Ambassadors event.

Next, Summer Festival committee member Judy Hilgenberg addressed the Chamber to go over their inaugural “Sizzlin’ Sale Days” event coming up on July 18th and 19th.

There will many merchant and garage sales going on over the course of the two days, as well as the Farm Bureau Cookout Contest, the open house for the new Main Street Guthrie Center office and a Guthrie Center photo hunt.

Garage and merchant sales will be held from 8am to 6pm on Friday the 18th, and then from 8am to 4pm on Saturday the 19th, while the Main Street Guthrie Center open house is scheduled for 9am to noon on the 18th.

Main Street Guthrie Center Director Julie Bailey rounded out the meeting by asking for the Chamber’s help in spreading the word about the Preserve Iowa Summit to be held in Cedar Rapids the weekend of August 21st.  Bailey says it is important for any Guthrie Center residents interested in the historic preservation of the town to sign-up and participate in the networking conference.
